Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. When asbestos fibers (asbestos in dust form) are inhaled, they may settle into the lungs of the exposed individual. The inhaled asbestos fibers can then travel to the lining of the lungs, abdomen, and other organs, where, in subsequent decades, mesothelioma develops.

Where Does Asbestos Exposure Occur?

Many victims diagnosed with mesothelioma were first exposed to asbestos in the workplace. The following occupations and industries are at high likelihood of having been exposed to asbestos:

  • Navy Veterans
  • Airforce Veterans
  • Construction Workers
  • Papermill Workers

But workers aren’t the only ones who have been exposed to asbestos due to the mineral’s presence in their workplace. When workers who were exposed to asbestos returned home to their families, asbestos fibers may have clung to their clothing. This means that the family of the affected may also have been exposed to asbestos during their lifetime.
